So Finally I started dabbling around with my old Traveller 3D Models. The Type-T is my first choice since there seems to be only one 3D Rendering made by Wayne Peters for GURPS Traveller: Sword Worlds visible on the books cover. I always wanted a decent looking Type-T Patrol Cruiser to supplement my memories about great times playing Traveller during my university years so it is the natural choice.
I originally wanted to start with a render of the old 3D Model but it since my Laptop has no copy of Cinema 4D CE+ installed, I have to add that later. So lets go on with the current state of the Model. Here is a pic. See? Not really impressive. Next to that the same Model (the main body) with a temporary UV-Texture applied.
Left side: bare 3D Model rendered with Blender 2.49, right side: hull only with test UV-texture appplied.
And the current state of Version 1 build 27
So I will start this WIP-Article from there and try to superdetail the model. If for some rease I choose to redo the model from scratch, I will let you know about the reasons.
Just to let you know where the journey is intended to go to – and to make use of FFE’s great and generous Fair Use Policy – here is a scan of the ship. It was taken either from the Traveller TNE rulebook or the MegaTraveller Imperial Encyclopedia if I remember correctly. I will verify that to provide you with accourate scource info.
For all those Travellers more interested in the travelling aspect, than in technical details about the vessel one is travelling on. The Ship on the left side is a Type -A Free Trader (presumably Beowulf Class, but there are about 7.437.842 different Free Trader designs out there, so one never knows).
I actually like the Type-A as I happen to own the MegaTraveller – Starship Operators Manual, which detailed that particular ship nicely.
The scene shown on the scan itself is intriguing since it presents the Type-T on actual duty in it’s role as a customs and patrol ship. The passage tunnel might also be an interesting model. I like it better than older pictures since the Type-T hull is more sleek in this pic compared to the cover art on GURPS Traveller: Sword Worlds.
I’ll keep you in sync about how things are going.
